During this 9-hour private guided tour of Canterbury & Leeds, you will have the opportunity to discover both the center of Christian worship for almost 1,700 years (Canterbury Cathedral) and the former royal residence of 6 English Queens (Leeds).
Our professional driver and our Blue Badge guide will pick you up at your hotel (or apartment) to drive you first to Canterbury (around 1.5-hour drive). Located near the white cliffs of Dover, Canterbury is a walled medieval city hosting a magnificent Cathedral (part of the UNESCO World Heritage site). Canterbury Cathedral is the most important church within the worldwide Anglican faith. The central "Bell Harry Tower" dates back to 1498, and the crypt to the 11th Century. Your Blue Badge guide will tell the story of the brutal murder of Archbishop Thomas Beckett in 1170 and you then explore the narrow streets of Canterbury.
After this amazing visit, you will have a lunch in one of the local restaurants (not included) and then our Blue Badge guide will bring you to Leeds (around 40 min drive).
Our Blue Badge guide will show you Leeds Castle which was described by Lord Conway as "the loveliest castle in the world" and is set in the middle of a natural lake, surrounded by 500 acres of parkland and gardens. Leeds Castle has been a Norman stronghold, a royal residence and a royal palace (for Edward I and his Queen Eleanor of Castile). The palace was transformed in the 16th Century by Henry VIII and became a retreat for the rich and powerful. Your guide will let you experience its magic in an atmosphere of still tranquillity. You will also explore the castle grounds where you will find the "Lady Baillie Garden" with views over the lake, an aviary and a Maze. the chapel, galleries, courtyards, and the banqueting hall. Afterwards, you’ll see the grounds that are home to wildfowl, black swans, and birds in the aviary.
We will then drive you back to London and drop you off at your hotel or apartment.
