During this 8-hour private guided tour of Oxford & the Cotswolds, you will have the opportunity to discover both the oldest university in the English-speaking world (Oxford) and the breathtaking beauty of British countryside villages (the Cotswolds).

Our professional driver and our Blue Badge guide will pick you up at your hotel (or apartment) to drive you first to Oxford. Located right in the middle between London and Gloucester, Oxford exudes intellectual activity and scholarly pursuits: it is the second-oldest continually running university, right after the University of Bologna and it includes 38 colleges and 6 permanent private halls. Over the centuries, Oxford has certainly built up an impressive reputation after educating a total of 26 British Prime Minister. Oxford is known as the "City of Dreaming Spires" based on the architecture of the world famous University buildings. No woman was allowed inside the University until 1878 and it is only in 1974 that the last of the all-male colleges opened their doors to women. Its fine, wide streets and noble buildings (and even its pubs!) have been the backdrop for countless TV programmes and films, from Inspector Morse to Harry Potter.

Starting at Christ Church, perhaps the best known of the university's colleges, you will then visit the Sheldonian Theatre, Radcliffe Camera, the Bodleian Library (second largest library in the UK with 11 million items), the Bridge of Sighs, the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, The Queens' College Oxford and the Divinity School (subject to availability and restrictions). With your Blue Badge Guide, you will visit memorials that bear witness to important moments in history, including the memorial to the Oxford martyrs of the Reformation and you will see Charles I's Royalist headquarters in Oxford during the English Civil Wars.

After this amazing visit, you will have a lunch in one of the local restaurants and then our Blue Badge Guide will bring you to the Cotswolds, in a village called Bourton-on-the-Water (around 1 hour drive). You will stop there for a little visit and your guide will show you the cattle grazing on grasslands dotted with wild orchids, the spires of quaint village churches to help you understand the quiet atmosphere of the British countryside. Underneath that earth lies rich Cotswold limestone, so beautiful it was used in the building of St Paul’s Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament.

Located on the North of the beautiful Cotswolds, Bourton-on-the-Water is often described as the "Little Venice" for its amazing series of elegant low bridges passing above the river Windrush and its beautiful High Street. You will then continue with your guide to the nearby market town Stow-on-the-Wold (highest town in the Cotswolds, founded in the 11th century), known for its remarkably large and impressive market square (used for the Wool market in the past). Then our Blue Badge Guide will show you Lower Slaughter before continuing North to Broadway and Chipping Camden.

We will then drive you back to London and drop you off at your hotel or apartment.

Our standard pick-up/drop-off for this tour is within Central London limits.

"We also booked a general tour of Paris and Versailles (2 days) with them. Our guide was Tatiana and there is no question she is a top level guide and a great person to be with. We had an informative and fun filled 2 days with her. Not only did we see some sights I haven't seen before, but she also helped us track down hidden note a friend had left hidden a few weeks earlier, like a treasure hunt. We had a van driver, but only used him to get between some of the major places, as we preferred to walk and Tatiana once she knew that was ready to go anywhere. This company is more expensive than others, but the guides and vehicles they used make it worth it. Also, no standing in line at Versailles was great".

"We booked a private half day tour of Versailles and it did not disappoint. Corine was our guide and she was extremely knowledgeable! The tour company picked us up from our hotel and drove us straight to Versailles. We had time before our entrance window, so we toured the gardens first. The gardens are gorgeous! Honestly, we could have spent a whole day just in the gardens. Corine did a great job explaining everything to us and it really helped to have the guide outside. Once we got in, Corine continued to prove her worth. Not only is she a wealth of information, she also has a great way of helping guide you through the crowds of people so you get to see everything you want. And not having to wait in that huge line to get in? Priceless!".
